The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development participated in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, held from 14 to 16 April 2026 at the UN Headquarters in New York, as part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to empower young people and strengthen their role in sustainable development and decision-making.
The ECOSOC Youth Forum is one of the leading global platforms that brings together young people, Member States, and key stakeholders to exchange perspectives on opportunities and challenges, and to enhance youth contributions towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the forum, discussions focused on amplifying youth voices in policymaking, strengthening their participation in development processes, and addressing key priorities, including regional development and youth wellbeing. The forum also highlighted findings from the Global Youth Report on mental health, underscoring the importance of promoting youth wellbeing as a core pillar of sustainable development.
The Ministry highlighted Saudi Arabia’s comprehensive approach to youth empowerment through an integrated national ecosystem that supports young people across different life stages. This includes the Youth Development Strategy, developed with active participation from young people, which focuses on enhancing wellbeing, enabling smooth transitions into education and employment, and creating supportive physical and digital environments.
The Head of the delegation, Director General of Youth Development Mr. Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, met on the sidelines of the forum with the Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Dr. Felipe Paullier, during which avenues for cooperation and partnership were discussed.
Additionally, the delegation met with the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil.
These efforts are part of a broader national framework that strengthens collaboration between the public, private, and non-profit sectors to expand opportunities for youth and enhance their contribution to innovation and social entrepreneurship. This aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which prioritises human capability development and the active participation of young people in national development.
